Example 1: Conventional Apartment
In this example, we shall start by assuming the following: a conventional apartment with a surface area of 100 m2, located in Valencia, with a surface area of 40 m2 gross façade. EPS (Polystyrene) Beads are injected into the cavities of the exterior walls of the perimeter of the façade.

– Uninsulated winter costs:
Monthly Gas 2589 KW 132 Euros/per month over 5-month period, a total of 660 Euros.

AA, Air Conditioning 264 Euros/per month over a 3-month period,
a total of 792 Euros.
-Insulated winter energy savings:
0.70 Euros/m2 in the façade over a 5-month period = 140 Euros.
-Insulated summer energy savings :
1.40 Euros/m2 in the façade over a 3-month period = 168 Euros.
308 Euros/per year. 20% tax relief – 220 Euros, Total = 828 Euros during the first year and 308 Euros in the second and third year.
This means that in a two (2) year period the investment is amortised. During the useful life of the property, let’s say for example, 50 years, an energy savings of 13,200 Euros is produced.
Example 2: Single family home
In this example, we shall start by assuming the following: a single family home with a constructed surface area of 160 m2, 2 80 m2 floor levels and located in Valencia, with a lateral outer shell surface area of 440 m2. The works to improve its insulation consists in blowing in (insufflation) rock wool in all its exterior walls and the placement of cellulose insulation in the roof. The windows, doors remain unchanged. The insulation quality of a property is characterised by the U value

Sample cost: 12 Euros per m2 plus 10% VAT
-Insulated surface area: 180 m2 blown in (insufflated) wall + 80 m2 attic roof = 240 m2
180 m2 * 12,00 Euros/m2 and 80m2 × 25 Euros per m2 thickness of 16 cm = 4160,00 Euros and 10% VAT.
-Uninsulated winter cost:
Monthly Gas 290.40 Euros
Total consumption 5,695.80 KWh.
A result of 0.66 Euros per m2 and month.
-5-month winter period
1,452.00 Euros winter consumption cost.
-Uninsulated summer cost:
Electricity, Air Conditioning 580,80 Euros,
a result of 1.32 Euros per m2 and month.
Summer lasts three months
And thus 1,742,40 Euros would have been spent in summer.
